Bicycle Vacation Cuba: Tobacco Route and Salsa Route
Submitted by ManjaB on 2009-03-06 01:28:45 (via www.off-the-beaten-track.net)
These two bicycle routes take you through a large part of Cuba. The mountainous Tobacco Route (427 km) leads from Havana to the Sierra del Rosario in the western province of Piñar del Rio. The Salsa Route (830 km) also starts in Havana, but takes you through the flatter, central part of Cuba, along Matanzas, Cienfuegos and Varadero.

Yes, although I'd take a plane or boat to travel TO Cuba, unless you own a water bike... But all kidding aside: yes, it's safe. But read the travel information that comes with the article and take their advice: always look up the country you want to visit in the CIA World Factbook (there's a link) and consult with your own country's Foreign Department.

Simple crillo food, from about $7

in Miramar... El Floridita
La Habana Vieja, Monserrate 557, at Obispo

Open daily 11:30-midnight.

Tel: 63 10 60/63

Cuba's most famous restaurant since the 1930s. Ernest Hemingway, and various Cuban presidents have been regulars here because of the excellent food well presented and well served. The prices, however, are high. Don't leave the island without trying one of the daiquiris popularized by Hemingway. El Patio
La Habana Vieja, Pl. de la Catedral

Open 24 hrs.

Phone: 33 81 46

This restaurant is in the courtyard of one of the finest palaces on the Plaza de la Catedral. Although the food is average and the prices are too, a visit is recommended due to its pretty location in Habana Vieja, and its nighttime popularity, try it if only for a beer or a coffee. enjoy your meals ;)
