| Doesn't it feel so very pleasant to read an extensive account of somebody' travels, so that you don't only get practical tips and facts, but also a glimpse of the specific atmosphere of certain places? And although I have heard some claim that Budapest is boring, this article offers a totally different image of it.

I have never been to Hungary, but I have been to Western Romania and as far as I remember they used to be part of the Habsburg Empire. Does Budapest differ a lot from cities in Western Romania?
Also, is it a good destination for an inter-rail trip across Europe? |

We were in Budapest and also the Transylvania region of Romania, then Sozopol, Bulgaria; we found them to be vastly different, but mainly due to the fact that one was city, another rural, and the third a beach town. However, one of the most interesting things we noticed was that the woman in whose home we stayed in Budapest greatly discouraged us from going to Romania -- said we would be "eaten alive by fleas" and would regret ever going there. (Of course that wasn't the case.) And then in Romania, as we prepared to depart for Bulgaria the woman whose home we stayed in told us that we would regret it, as Bulgaria "was a nation of thieves." Again, not true in our experiences.
But to answer your question, I do think that Romania is a bit more provencial and rough than Hungary. And I do think it's a good destination for an inter-rail trip across Europe -- one not to be missed. |

i loved budapest, i went with 6 college friends and we had a great time! the drink and food are both very cheap and the sights are wonderful. im not a walker of cities but everyone else i went with was and i still enjoyed every minute of it. though the previous year i went to vienna with 2 of my girl friends and i personally think it had better nightlife. |
