| Madagascar may be the most wonderful country. The Malagasy people are warm and friendly, with brilliant smiles and great senses of humor. And their customs are as amazing. Do you know what would mean for you, if you were the resident of one of its villages and gave birth to twins? Amazing slowly changes to horribleā¦

I think its funny that you said you got a taste of "Malagasy nightlife" by going to hotel glacier. You actually got a taste of the malagasy sex trade, all those french men were pedophiles or jons looking to buy a date, and all those teenage girls were prostitutes. Glacier has good bands though. I'm a peace corps volunteer living in Madagascar. Ive been here about 7 months. I speak Malagasy and live in the countryside. My experience of Madagascar is different because I live here, for example Malagasy people were very charming to me when I first got here. After living here I wouldnt use that description. Ive never heard of the Malagasy folk tales you mentioned about twins and children thinking white people will eat them. There are alot of PCVs all over the country and no one has ever mentioned that to me, doesnt mean its not true, just news to me. |

I'm Malagasy and I am living in Madagascar so I really know what you are talking about. I was in Maroantsetra, Masoala for a long time. I think that it's a really nice description. Just for your information: the bridge to Coco-beach was broken and still in reparation. Malagasy people are very kind and friendly. Masoala is always raining. When I was there last year there was cyclone. Fort-Dauphin and Andasibe are good place too. You had a nice plan. I am living here but I've never been in Ste Marie, so funny!!! I'm glad that someone got fun in watching lemurs, I really love these!!!!! and chameleons... It seems that you drank THB, how did you find it? good, hun? It's a local beer and the best. Airport are actually in good situation. I read the comment of the peace-corps below; I think that he is too negatif; like in all countries we have prostitutes but not all beautiful Malagasy teenage girls who is going out to have fun are there to date with dirty old men!!! About the twins tale, it's true but only in the Southeastern of Mada. Parents really leave one of the twins on the road. It had been practiced many many years ago but I think that noone do it actually. Some children are really scared when they see "vazaha" but not in all cases. Who isn't when seeing unusual???? But mostly chidren are very happy and say "salut vazaha!!!" |
